Rezumat:  The Role of the Romanian Priesthood from Northern Transylvania in the Educational and Cultural Life During the Second Half of the Nineteenth Century. In the context of the other Transylvanian sites with a long tradition concerning education and culture - such as Blaj, Sibiu or Braşov -, it grows more and more apparent the role of the centers of Năsăud-Bistriţa and Gherla as focal points from which the Romanian education and culture spread all over. These sites have a remarkable individuality and their influence was great. In the process of development of these centers, the local Romanian scholars had their role. All outstanding personalities, these intellectuals included among their members many names from the Romanian clergy. The Romanian priesthood form Northern Transylvania during the second half of the nineteenth century served in different local cultural and academic associations among which ASTRA occupied a chief place. The establishment of some foundations by the priests represents also a cultural achievement, and chief representatives of the Romanian clergy stood out in the cultural life as authors of original works on literary, didactic, linguistic, and theological topics, or as authors of biographies and chronicles. The involvement of the clergy from the North of Transylvania in the academic and cultural life of the region was essential during all the period of the second half on the nineteenth century. The contribution of the Romanian clergy to the advancement and progress of the Romanians living in this part of the country remains a glamorous page of national history.
